Creativity

Creativity seems to arise from an interaction between members of an assembly. In the most rudimentary case this might be between different areas in the same mind. Generally this will in an assembly of individuals and tools, musical instruments for musicians, pen or typewriter for writers, pen or brush for graphics and so on.

Many powerful tools are computer based, music synthesisers, word processors, CAD and other Graphic design software.

For science and technology, I have made great use of spreadsheets and models, some generated with FEA.

There needs to be an open exchange of ideas between individuals which, in the real world of intellectual property, means copyright and, for technology, patents, NDAs, and conditions of employment relating to IP.

The development of technology usually involves a collaboration between individuals bringing a variety of skills and insights.

Science, as opposed to alchemy, is defined by being open to scrutiny and this underlies its success.

In computing that is open source software tends to be more reliable and adaptable than proprietary software.

The downside of this is that it can be a bit more clunky.

This site uses a self hosted copy of WordPress, which means that I can adapt it to do what I want, but to do this I have to understand how to do this (or pay someone to do it for me).

If I just wanted to run a conventional blog, it would probably be far easier using a proprietary platform.
